Class 34 ?? in Johannesburg 1987

Class 34 ?? in Johannesburg 1987

Here are two pictures I took at the station in Johannesburg of a shunting Class 34 ?? engine.
Unfortunately is the second picture not relly so sharp as it should be.

Im wondering what that other track is for on top of the platform?? It has a signal for it but the heights change?? or am I not seeing something??

This is where the cars are loaded for long distance passenger trains at Johanneburg station.

That is indeed a GE Class 34. You can recognize this as a 34 due to the sloped sides of the extended roof piece. The 35's are square. Also not all the Class 34's have them.
