6E1 1950 Loco with a coat of many Colours

Post by Stefan Andrzejewski »

1950 has returned to Cape Town in her third Livery. The first photo (inset top Left) was taken in 1988, (inset bottom left) taken last year September. Seen here majestically with the JHB - CPT Premier Classe almost 45 minutes early. Seen coming around the corner was a Light engine Class 36 returning to Bellville. These were taken opposite the Parow Golf Course. A new spot between the station with no Guards prowling around.

I like the first picture. Is it possible to post it again without the small pictures inside?

It also seems that it is there a nice place to spot trains. Unfortunately I had no chance to see the premier class when I was in South Africa.

Here it is Andreas. Yes certainly it is, depending on what time of the day it is. This was taken at 15h30 (3.30pm). I am going to try a few shots in the morning. I would have to cross the line.

Hi Stefan, no need to cross the tracks when you are going there in the morning. When i was there long ago i parked at the end of the road and this is what it looks like from there:

I was watching a video that I had made when we went to Jhb by train in 1995. 1950 was one of the Loco's in charge. I find that amazing. Two trips in in 15 years and been pulled by the same Loco.

E1950 was always Bellvilles 'pet' loco for passenger work wasn't she? I notice that the horns are still on one side, despite the lack of a camera these days. Which other E19XX loco had the cameras fitted?

Jez I think that 1950/51/52/57/73 were used for the Blue Train before the 14E's started pulling her. 4 Blue 6e1's were damaged perhaps lost when the two Trans Karoo's collided some years ago just outside Gouda. Some of them could have been these.

Hi Stefan

Here's another shot of E1950, this time out in the winelands north of Wellington, with Bailey's Peak in the background. The 2nd loco was E1522, nice and clean too. This was a late running Trans Karoo on 12th February 2010.
