All aboard!: Prohibition-era train steams onto New York subway for 1920s TV series

It was once the cutting edge of metropolitan travel.

For more than 50 years the vintage train has been in retirement.

But now the Prohibition-era engine is to ride the rails once again- to promote a new TV series set in the glamorous 1920s.

The HBO network is paying New York's transport authority $150,000 to run the charming train along New York's 2/3 subway line during four weekends in September.

The stunt is designed to promote the second series of Boardwalk Empire, set in 1920s Atlantic City, the Wall Street Journal reported.

HBO approached the Metropolitan Transport Authority for 'something nostalgic' said MTA promotions director Eugene Ribeiro.

The transit authority then offered the retired train that originally ran from 1917 to 1960.

The subway will be decorated with pictures of Boardwalk Empire baddie Nucky Thompson, and will run between 42nd street and 96th street.

This is actualy an Electric subway train and is presently in the MTA Museum at Court Street Brooklyn.

Quite a good museum and gives a good interpretation of the New York Subway before the Graffitti Artists got to it.

Needless to say the hack journalist has little idea what he is talking about.
