Man survives being hit by train traveling at 110 miles per hour with just fractured bones

...It appears that [the man], who had headphones on, walked into the middle of the train tracks and into the course of a Chicago-bound AMTRAK train...

Call me old-fashioned, but I cannot understand why so many people walk, cycle or drive around with headphones on, thus cutting off one of their vital survival senses.
