Permanent way train in Dagoretti Station. I watched this machine jack itself up and turn 180 degrees.

Perhaps a cunning Kenyan invention? Based on the principle that what advances must retreat?

And could this be the very same tamper that I photographed 14 years ago? I photographed it in Nairobi marshalling yard today (01 May 2010) whilst riding on steam locomotive 3020.

Sorry, no. I watched it turning itself around but I can't remember now why I didn't take any pictures of it doing so.
