Friends of the Rail Forum

Going through my SAR memorabilia I found these Railway Christmas cards painted and produced by an old acquaintance of mine Malcolm Bates. He has a rich Railway back ground as both his Uncle and Grandfather were trains drivers. His Grandfather was one of the first to drive the brand new Electric Suburbans between Cape Town and Simonstown in Circa 1928. Malcolm is now a Priest and has little time for painting. I have his permission to submit these cards to FOTR.

Beautiful sketches. Thanks to you and the artist for sharing these important historical pictures. The FOTR forum can, in some ways, become an archive for such historical material.

Thank for these - they are really very nice. I especially like the use (in the majority) of different forms of motive power.

What is the original size?

And the text inside?

Most of them are 210mm by105mm. The Beaufort West scene and Cape Town Harbour scene is 155mm by 110mm. The inside text must be about a size 7 or 8 on the MS Word scale.
