S2 0-8-0 Shunters at Cape Town 3rd January 1970

This was my first encounter with South African Railways and I was impressed especially by the S2 with a tender heavier than the loco it was attached to.

I remember going to the docks when I was small early 1960's . The S2's would park around G birth. Where the Customs house is situated now. At any one time you could find ten of 15 of them standing there sizzling. They had no leading wheels and could reverse faster than they could go forward.
