Taken at Port Shepstone Narrow Gauge 25 May 1975
N13 No 50 Hanomag 10598 of 1928
N16 No 128 Beyer Peacock 7429 of 1951
N16 No 137 Beyer Peacock 7862 of 1958
Built for Tsemeb Corporation in South West Africa as TC6.
Late evening shots with very strong shade present in all photos, how I wish I had my present camera in those days, also the vurtually unlimited number of shots of the digital cards.

It can, to a certain extent, however the original slides have lost some quality and the harsh shadows in the South African sun make it difficult to get the detail of the below footplate areas and keep the contrast correct above the footplate.
Some slides come up better than others, depending on the above issues.

Rob, no problem reconditioning, I think this illustrates the issues fairly well as a lot of shade detail is lost, just a matter of personal choice in which way it goes.
For interest the camera I was using in those far off days was a German Braun Paxette 35mm, fastest shutter speed 1/300th sec aperture f2.8 to f16. Although focus was manual there was a range comparison area in the centre of the view finder which was almost impossible to use.
The left hand side of the photos was always slightly out of focus compared to the right hand side.
The 1975 trip to South Africa was about its last outing before I upgraded to a Minolta ST101.

These three slides have been reduced to black and white format which I think can overcome some of the issues with high contrast colour slides

Ian, my attempt to improve this, adjusting the end-points and curves, trying to retain the shadow detail.
