If the power shortage becomes too much, may I suggest that there are a great many steam locomotives still available for return to service(?) [/color][/i][/b]

Burnt out 6E1
While driving from Wellington to Worcester on 6th Feb this year I spotted this 6E1 sitting in Voelvlei siding, near Gouda on the Cape main line. When returning this way the following day, it was gone, presumably moved to Belville. Must have been an electrical fault that caused the fire. There were ...

Rovos Rail's last run on the Garden Route
Rovos Rail has withdrawn their Cape Town - George - Cape Town route. The last run was supposed to be on the weekend of 5/6/7 March, but due to the cancellation of this train, the previous trip on 5/6/7 February was actually the last one. I teamed up with Peter Rogers to do some photting of the ...

Re: 6E1 1950 Loco with a coat of many Colours
Hi Stefan
Here's another shot of E1950, this time out in the winelands north of Wellington, with Bailey's Peak in the background. The 2nd loco was E1522, nice and clean too. This was a late running Trans Karoo on 12th February 2010.

Harte River bridge
Last weekend I visited this location for the first time - totally spectacular! This is between Volksrust and Newcastle on the Natal main line, southbound container train behind three 18E's. Thanks to Jean Dulez and Tony Attwell for inviting me along.

Class 39's at Irene
Hi guys
On 17th Dec I was at Irene, hoping to get some of the Shosh Meyl passenger trains coming through in the morning. No luck, instead I did get this shot. 4 x class 39 diesels on a block load of limestone headed to the PPC factory at Jupiter. They were going at passenger train speed!
Cheers ...

Re: 36 shunting along Kroonstad line
Hi Aidan
It is Viljoensdrift, there are also operational semaphores there. Reasonably safe, best for photogpraphy in the afternoon, as there are tall trees on the east side of the line. I don't think anything happens there on a weekend.
Cheers

Re: So much for privatisation!
Let them keep the SM 18E's on freights, that way there's more chance of getting 6E1's in old SAR red on the passenger trains!!!

Re: Premier Classe Diesel
Maybe someone else can tell us if this is correct ? As far as I know, the section from Voorbaai to PE is worked by class 34's, not 35's, and I would be surprised if 2 x 35's could take the Premier Classe load up the Montagu Pass.

Re: Premier Classe Diesel
Hi Stefan, is this the Premier Classe to Port Elizabeth? If yes, maybe that explains the diesels?
