New Transnet Loco's from EMD (U.S.A.)

Post by Kevin Wilson-Smith »

Transnet appears to have selected United States-based manufacturer Electromotive Diesel (EMD) to build 212 diesel locomotives for use primarily in the general freight business of its largest division, Transnet Freight Rail.

This is part of the Transnet’s five-year R78 billion capital investment programme - the bulk of the R78 billion is to be spent in Freight Rail to modernize its aging infrastructure.

The first batch will be used on the company’s Iron Ore line between Sishen mines in the Northern Cape and the Port of Saldanha.
