3117 beats the Metro!

Post by John Ashworth »

GNW 124 is a signal where we are almost always held to allow a Metro set to come through the single line section, terminate at Pienaarsport, then return ahead of us. Crew refer to it as our "tea stop".

However on 29th March 2009, with 3117 at the head of ten coaches and a water bottle, we made such good time that we were allowed through GNW 124 without stopping, and we found the Metro set waiting for us for a change at the far end of the single line.

Indeed seldom occurring, but I think that CTC notice that FOTR dont delay and so give us the orange or green eyes to get moving, thus leaving Metro in their slipstream!
