Can't find anything about the Isle of Man in this forum. The island has at least 7 railways, here are photos of the IoM Steam Railway which runs over 15 miles across the island from Douglas to Port Erin, the Electric Railway which is glorious 17 mile ride on double track from Douglas to Ramsey and hidden away in a beautiful part of the island, the Groudle Glen Railway.

I have an interesting DVD on the operations here. The electrics are especially interesting ... and weird!

Kevin, I took them a couple of weeks ago. If you get chance the island is well worth a visit.
The little Bagnall engine, Sea Lion, on the Groudle Glen Railway is the original engine built for the line in 1896. A second one, Polar Bear, was built in 1905 for the railway and is now still in operation on the Amberly Museum Railway in England
There is another major railway on the island, the 3'6'' Snaefel Mountain Railway which uses cars with German electrics similar to the 3' gauge I O M Electric Railway trams with British BTH equipment, different electric pick ups are used.
At Laxey Station, a dual gauge siding allows the 3'6'' bogies to be for 3' ones so both railway trams can be service in the same Douglas Tram Depot

These, single electric units have always appealed to me for use on secondary branch lines such as the Stellenbosch loop. Working 11 coach trains over weekends and during off-peak times feels like such a waste to me. Does any one know if these type of 'shuttle electrics' have ever been used in South Africa?
