Gerald was a member of FOTR for several years. We first met him when we were operating the steam tractor at Willem Prinsloo agricultural museum. He began reminiscing about his youth when he was a friend of the then owner's son and actually used to ride on that very same steam engine as a boy. He then joined FOTR and was a regular at our monthly meetings in the Transvaal Museum, and on our trains. He even shared an all-night fire-lighting stint with me once, an experience which I think he enjoyed immensely (despite the fact that it rained all night). I think we all have fond memories of him - RIP.Roger Ford wrote:It is with sadness that I must inform you that my father, Gerald Ford, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday 31 August. He really loved steam trains and followed the activities of FOTR closely. It would be greatly appreciated if you would mention his passing in the next newsletter.
A memorial service will be held tomorrow [Friday 03 September] morning at 10 am at St James Presbytarian Church in Bedfordveiw.
Thank you,
Roger Ford.
