Chicago trains collide, dozens injured

'Unmanned' commuter train crashes in Chicago

A commuter train is likely to have been unmanned when it crashed into another train outside Chicago during Monday's morning rush hour... video from the scene shows no driver at the controls of an empty train that crashed into another train carrying passengers...

Chicago crash: Dozens injured after unmanned runaway commuter train collides with another train at station

Investigators are still trying to determine how the parked vehicle began moving without a driver...

Chicago Train Crash NTSB Probe Continues Despite Government Shutdown

The federal investigation into the crash of an unmanned Chicago commuter train is continuing, but the government shutdown has meant there's nobody around to talk about it...

NTSB: Chicago 'ghost train' left powered up in storage yard

trains are "routinely left powered-up while stored and with the brake setting that would allow movement"...

Investigators also said the train was stopped automatically several times by trip mechanisms.

"After each stop, the train started moving again because the master lever on the operator console had been left in a setting that allowed the train car brakes to recover and reset from the emergency brake application and proceed through a mechanical train stop mechanism after a momentary stop"...
