Millionaire builds roundhouse from scratch

An American millionaire has funded the construction of the first roundhouse to be built in the USA since 1951. Jerry Joe Jacobson has built the 18-road shed, along with its own fully-equipped workshop, around a 115ft turntable to house his collection of nine steam locomotives acquired over three decades, ranging from an 0-4-0T to a Grand Trunk Railroad 4-8-4. A railway entrepreneur, starting with a 35-mile short line in 1984, Jacobson went on to own 455 miles of line generating 70,000 wagon loads per year. In 2008 he sold his Ohio Central operation to Genesee and Wyoming for USD 234 million (GBP 150 million). The sale allowed Jacobson's dream roundhouse to become a reality.
