Reality Check: What does nationalising the railways mean?

There's a very good article in the April 2016 issue of The Railway Magazine, which sets out both the pros and cons of privatisation in a very balanced manner. The RM article, unsurprisingly, goes into much more depth than the BBC article I have linked to here - in fact the BBC one is very superficial.
