Fikile Mbalula wants a 'war room' and daily reports in Prasa turnaround plan
Transport minister Fikile Mbalula wants daily reports to get the Passenger Rail Agency of SA (Prasa) back on track.

“Trains must work and be on time, passengers must be respected by Prasa and communicated with frequently,” Mbalula said on Wednesday evening in a meeting with Prasa’s board.

“There must be urgency in the implementation of the turnaround strategy. As minister, I’ll need daily and weekly reports on issues of workers’ grievances and plans to get Prasa back on track”...

Fikile Mbalula promises less jaw-jaw and more war-war on safer rail transport
Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula’s maiden transport budget vote speech on Tuesday was marred by two key transport themes — e-tolls and the ongoing rail issues at Prasa. But Mbalula stood firm on his June promise on rail: A stable board and a war room for passenger rail.

Efforts to clean up the rail system, especially the embattled Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) and a subdivision of the entity, Metrorail, will be one of the main focuses of the next 100 days...

Ministerial War Room for PRASA Is A Game Changer For Passenger Rail
The War Room is a physical space that will enable those deployed to the War Room to make rapid decisions based on the information they gather from the operations on the ground, on an hour-by-hour basis.

The War Room will be supported by a Technical Task Team primarily made up of experts with in-depth knowledge and experience in a number of areas, which include train operations, signalling, rolling stock and security.

On a daily basis, the team will start the day with an assessment of the previous day’s performance and identify issues that hamper performance and make decisions on how to resolve these. The relevant officials with delegated authority will action these decisions and report to the War Room through the Daily Status Meetings. Performance will be managed and monitored daily to ensure sustained improvement.

In the Metrorail regions and Mainline Passenger Services (MLPS), the War Room structure will be replicated and performance information reported on daily. The War Room will go live on Monday, 12 August 2019...

The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa says a "war room" - established to improve the state-owned entity’s fortunes - is already at work, a month after it was launched.

Passenger trips plunged from 634 million in 2010 to 208 million in the 2018-19 financial year, a 67% decrease during the period...
