Mid year regular month-end steam working the "Tshwane Xplorer" approaches the Capital city's main station. This magnificent building, designed by Sir Herbert Baker, still gets to witness regular steam operations. FOTR class 24 JoAnna number 3664 hauls the mid winter train around the complex route.

As the steam-hauled "Tshwane Xplorer" winds through the pointwork of Pretoria main station, it passes the class 14E electric unit used to haul the renowned Blue Train to Cape Town. This dedicated unit is stabled here at the platform end, awaitting the next Blue.

With the UNISA building overlooking the changing Pretoria rail scene, we see on the left a large amount of earthworks and construction going on for the future Gautrain. 3664, the class 24, purrs past as she takes her monthly Tshwane Xplorer set on its city circumference.

Viewed from the cab of 24 class 3664, the earthworks just out of Pretoria main station for the future Gautrain can clearly be seen. Some day there may still be a race between the two forms of motive power!

Loftus Verseveld station now has the abuttments cast for the new Gautrain bridge. This new structure will parallell the existing line as it heads towards Rissik/Hatfield terminus. The structure here lies over Lynwood Road and is adjacent to the University of Pretoria.

Steaming into history. This is what makes the Tshwane trains so interesting in the rail changes of the future, besides the very interesting railside views of the city.
