Red Devil 2003
Heritage Day 24 Sept 2003, they brought the Red Devil out for a special to pull the Spier Train out to Stellenbosch. She was in fine fettle that day and looked stunning. As the driver left Monument Station (Cape Town) he opened her up. Only the Red Devil has that distinct bark. It sounded so great. That was the last time I saw her in steam.

Brings back memories. I requested the use of the Red Devil for that trip and was surprised when they agreed. Spent the previous day cleaning her up at Dal Josafat shed with limited equipment. Lots of work but a good end result. She did run once or twice after this. Her destination on this particular day was Paarl. Superb trip.

Ah yes, I recall having the cabsides and smokedeflector plates cast for the museun loco. I last saw this loco sad and forlorn in Cape Town station with Atlantic rail.

Thanks for organising that trip Dylan! If it wasn't for that trip, I would never have seen her in steam. And she looked great - was a pleasant suprise after seeing her 'at Dal a few months earlier
