"Mountain Zephyr" Heritage Dnner Train Closes down.

Post by Kevin Wilson-Smith »

After 26 years of operation, the Minnesota Zephyr Dinner Train closed down at the end of December - operational costs are cited as the reasons.

The train will now become a stationary restaurant at Stillwater Depot.

I seem to remember going to Stillwater (MN) when I was staying in Eagan, near Minneapolis, many years ago. It was just for a scenic drive and I don't remember the railway depot.

Anyway, I had a look at it on Google Earth. There is a train standing in the station!

Maybe it will just be for tourists? Not many around this time of year. It is pretty cold here, but I remember some pretty cold nights in Minnesota.

I remember seeing a similar train, one of those early generation aluminium (aluminum) ones from the 50's. It was ex the "Rock Island Line" and was at the Green Bay (WI) railway museum.

Saw a TV program on the Zephyr a couple of weeks ago. Lots of train programs here if you channel surf!! My remote is well used!!
