HRASA Convention held

The second annual convention of the Helderberg Railway and Semaphore Association (HRASA) was held on its home turf at Somerset West over the New Year period 2009. Delegates paid visits to Bellville motive power depot and Elgin(headquarters of the Elgin Valley Railway), as well as an on site inspection of a level crossing accident at Vlaeberg. Further activities included lineside photography of metro sets amongst the remaining semaphore signals and token machines on the Somerset West and Stellenbosch lines, with superb mountain scenery,while sundowners were consumed as the sun set over the semaphore masts at Firgrove station. All in all, this was a successful event and it is hoped to continue it annually, at least as long as the semaphores remain.
