ITN Tue Jan 17 2012 17:26

A train crashed into a dump truck on Tuesday morning in Taiwan, killing one person and injuring 22.

The truck, which was carrying gravel, collided with the train after entering a railway crossing, with part of its trailer being pushed 200 metres into a nearby station around rush hour.

"So far we have sent the injured passengers to three hospitals in Yangmei and Chungli. Aside from one more passenger who was seriously wounded, others only had minor injuries," said an emergency official.

The truck driver escaped the crash but 51-year-old train driver Tsai Chong-hui died at the scene.
